The Dealership BDC Guide
How a dealership phone room works, the ways to staff it, and how to choose and launch the one that fits your store.
A dealership BDC (business development center) is the team that answers the phones, responds to internet leads and follows up until the customer has an appointment. This guide covers it in three steps: understand what the phone room does and where leads go missing, compare in-house, outsourced, hybrid and AI options and what each costs, then choose a provider and launch it with the right questions, contract terms and reporting.
Most of what gets written about BDCs, including most of our own BDC library, is about running one: word tracks, show rate, CRM notes, coaching. That is the right reading for a manager who already has a phone room. It is less help to a dealer who is still deciding whether to build one, fix one or hand the phones to somebody else. This guide is for that decision, and it is ordered the way the decision goes.
We should be plain about where we stand. Pinnacle runs BDC On Demand, an outsourced call center for dealerships, and we also train in-house BDC teams. We sell both answers, so the guide tries to tell you honestly when each one fits, including the cases where the right move is to keep the work in your own building.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a BDC at a car dealership?
A business development center is the team that handles a dealership's phone calls, internet leads, texts and follow-up, and turns them into appointments for the sales floor and the service drive. Some stores run one BDC for sales and another for service; some put both jobs on the same desks. Sales BDC vs service BDC.
What is the difference between a BDC and a call center?

Should a dealership run its BDC in-house or outsource it?
It depends on lead and call volume, the hours you need covered and whether you have a manager to run the room. Many dealers use a hybrid: their own agents for core hours and an outside team for overflow, after-hours and event spikes. The outsourcing models compared.
How much does an outsourced BDC cost?
Vendors price by dedicated agent, by lead, by appointment or as a flat monthly fee, and most quote per store, so there is no standard price. Pinnacle does not publish pricing for BDC On Demand; it starts with a complimentary consultation and a custom plan. How outsourced BDC pricing works.
