Service Drive and Fixed Ops

The advisor, the write-up, the phone and the repair order — the half of the dealership that sees the customer most often.

Most stores meet their customer far more often in the service lane than on the sales floor, and almost every one of those meetings is run by a service advisor who was hired for being good with people and then trained by being handed a terminal. The result is predictable. The write-up is rushed, the inspection is presented as a list of prices rather than a set of findings, the declined work is never followed up, and the phone rings out to a voicemail box nobody clears. Each article below is about one of those moments.

This library was split out of dealership trainingin September 2026. Thirty-odd substantial pieces on fixed ops had been filed as a training subtopic and a BDC subtopic, which meant the largest body of service-drive writing on the site had no single place to live. Nothing moved address — every article is still where it was — but they now sit under the department they are about.

It is a library, not a pitch. If you want the training itself, that is service advisor training, service management training and service BDC training. If you are not sure which end is costing you most, the in-store assessment looks at the lane in person. Start with the first section if the question is what the job actually is, and the second if your approval rate is the number that hurts.
